| 1 | Couples join the floor, usually at the start of the evening and then go into a quadrille or other set dance. | |
| 1 | Couples Promenade |
The lead couple joins the
floor at the end furthest from the band and promenades
anti-clockwise around the hall , all other couples join the end
of the line at the bottom or as the end passes.. They parade around the outside of dance area once and then come up the centre of the room towards the band. |
| 2 | Single Cast Off | When each couple gets to the top of the hall the ladies cast to the right and men to the left and travel back down the outside of the hall to the bottom. |
| 3 | Couples Return | The couples rejoin at the bottom and return up the centre of the room. |
| 4 | Couples Cast Off | At the top of the room the lead couple cast to their left, the next couple right with each successive couple alternately left and right. |
| 5 | Lines of Four Return | At the bottom couples joins another couple to form lines of four to return up the centre of the hall. |
| 6 | Fours Cast Off | On reaching the top the first line of four, casts off to the left and then alternately right and left. |
| 7 | Lines of Eight Return | At the bottom each line-of-4 joins another line-of-4 to form lines of 8 and return up the centre of the hall. |

Short version only. When the lines of eight are 3/4 of the way up the room they make their way to positions to start a quadrille dance. |
| 8 | Split into Fours | On reaching the top the lines of split into fours, left 4 moving left and right to the right, returning down the room. |
| 9 | Return in Couples | At the bottom they split once again into couples the left couples will be in front of the right couples as they move back up the hall. |
| 10 | Couples Cast Off | Top couple cast of to their left and move anti-clockwise around the outside of the dance area a complete circuit. |
| 11 | Form Sets | The first couples and the others who cast left in the "couples cast off" turn to face the other couples ready to start the next dance. |
| - | Marches at 28-32 bars/minute | Short version, when the lines of eight are 3/4 of the way up the room they make their way to positions to start a quadrille dance. |
